Hi guys, I am bored so I am going to write you a guide for fishing! My veeeery first guide! Why I chose this? Because I like fishing IRL and I used it in RS back in 2010.. Good times.. So.. On with the guide!

Content

  • 1.0 - Why choose fishing?
  • 2.0 - Quest list
  • 3.0 - Fishes
  • 4.0 - Random events
  • 5.0 - Where to get your gear.
  • 6.0 - Leveling

1.0 - Why choose fishing?

That's a very simple question if you ask me. Food. Runescape players need food. To PK, to slay monsters, to level up, to become pro. And what is more pro then being your own food source rather then buying it from other people? You can make a lot of money from it from selling it, and save money too, by not buying lobs and swords on the market for tons of money. Also, you can train your Cooking level with it without buying Raw fish which is also a bunch of money. There. Your reason.

2.0 - Quest list

These are all the quests who give Fishing XP:

1.000 xp - Recipe for Disaster (M) (VERY VERY long quest)
2.437 xp - Fishing Contest (E)
2.812 xp - The Fremennik Trials (H)
5.000 xp - Tai Bwo Wannai Trio (H)
7.000 xp - Rum Deal (H)
7.175 xp - Sea Slug Quest (M)
7.650 xp - Legends Quest*
10.000 xp - Swan Song*

Total = 43,074 XP

(* = Master quest, MUCH requirements included.)
(H = Much Requirements -- M = Some requirements -- E = VERY less requirements)

3.0 - Fishes

Here's a list of ALL fishes you can fish:

Name fish - LV needed to fish - EXP per catched fish

Shrimp - LV1 - 10 EXP per fish
Karambwanji - LV5 - 10 EXP per fish
Sardine - LV5 - 20 EXP per fish
Herring - LV10 - 30 EXP per fish
Anchovy - LV15 - 40 EXP per fish
Mackerel - LV16 - 20 EXP per fish
Trout - LV20 - 50 EXP per fish
Cod - LV23 - 45 EXP per fish
Pike - LV25 - 60 EXP per fish
Slimey Eel* - LV28 - 65 EXP per fish
Salmon - LV30 - 70 EXP per fish
Frog Spawn* - LV33 - 75 EXP per fish
Tuna - LV35 - 80 EXP per fish
Cave Eel* - LV36 - 80 EXP per fish
Lobster - LV40 - 90 EXP per fish
Bass - LV46 - 100 EXP per fish
Swordfish - LV50 - 100 EXP per fish
Lava Eel - LV53 - 30 EXP per fish
Karambwan - LV65 - 105 EXP per fish
Shark - LV76 - 110 EXP per fish
Sea Turtle - LV79 - 105 EXP per fish
Manta Ray - LV81 - 115 EXP per fish

(* = Healing varys)

TIP: If you have much raw Karambwan and want to start leveling up Cooking, then start with that. They have a requirement of 1 Cooking.

4.0 - Random events

Random events also occur when fishing. So when fishing, you need to hold an eye onto it, because your equipment may be gone or you stop fishing if you do not.

Big fish Emilian's First guide for fishing Big_fish
The big fish sometimes randomly pops out of the water, takes your equipment and spits it out. If you don't retrieve your stuff in 60 seconds it will become visible for everyone to pick it up.

Moving fishing spot
The most common thing in fishing is the moving fishing spot. The name says it all, the spot where you were fishing moved to another place. If you don't have an eye out for this, you stop fishing and don't catch anything anymore.

River Troll Emilian's First guide for fishing 20091018064016!River_Troll
Also one of the most well-known pain-in-the-ass events, the river troll. The river troll is almost the same level as you, but if you don't have any combat equipment with you, you will most likely die. In crowded places where people are stacked, it is the best to step back for a second and see if you are not being attacked. My advice is to run away and don't die, but you can take him with armour.

Whirlpool Emilian's First guide for fishing Whirlpool
Here you need to have an eye out for. Sometimes, a random whirlpool may show up when you are fishing. If you keep fishing in this whirlpool, you may lose your equipment. So my advice is just move to another fishing spot untill it is over.

Evil Bob Emilian's First guide for fishing Evil_bob
Evil Bob, the random event which you can also be caught in if you are NOT fishing. The chance of Evil Bob taking you while fishing is increased, but, this is not yet been citated.

5.0 - Where to get your gear

The gear you will be using comes from the Port Sarim fishing shop. Be sure to stock some in before you start.

Location
-- ADDED SPOILER BECAUSE ITS KINDA BIG --
Spoiler:

6.0 - Leveling

So, now the main part of the guide - leveling. Where to level, and how to.

Level 1-20

Location
In Lumbridge Swamp, above the mining spot. To get there, go from Lumbridge castle south to Bob's equipment. Go in the graveyard, and keep heading south on the path.
-- Made by me --

Gear to use
Take with you: a Small Fishing net, a Fishing rod and bait.

What to fish
Level 1-5 : Use the Small fishing net to fish Shrimps.
Level 5-10 : Fishing rod with bait to catch Sardines and Herring
Level 10-20 : Your choice. Rod with bait or the net? If you are in it for the money, keep using the rod. If not, it makes absolutely no difference, except the bait for the rod costs money.

Level 20-35

Location
Go right from Lumbridge Castle over the bridge, then west from the house with goblins.
-- Made by me --
Emilian's First guide for fishing Mapoflumbridge

Gear to use
Take with you: a Fly fishing rod & Feathers, Fishing rod with bait.

What to fish
Level 20-25 : Use the fly fishing rod with feathers to catch Trout.
Level 25-30 : Use the fishing rod with bait to catch Pike.
Level 30-35 : Use the fly fishing rod with feathers to catch Salmon.

-- Now, it's starting to become interesting. You're going to Karamja! Good job! --

How to get to Karamja
Take the boat located in Port Sarim. Map of how to get there in the spoiler. Also take 60gp with you for the ships costs as there is no bank located in Karamja.
Spoiler:
Also take this fishing gear with you:
- Harpoon
- Lobster Cage
Congratz! You're now in Karamja!

Level 35-76

Location
-- Made by me --
Emilian's First guide for fishing Karamja

Gear to use
Take with you: Harpoon, Lobster cage

What to fish
Level 35-40 : use the Harpoon to fish Tuna.
Level 40-50 : use the Lobster Cage to fish Lobster. GOOD TIP: It's better to do this at Catherby! You can see the map of how to get to Catherby on the Location at Level 76-99
Level 50-76 : use the Harpoon to fish Swordfish

-- Congrats, you can now fish decent fish to PK with! --

Level 76-99

Location
-- THIS IS A LARGE MAP! --
Spoiler:

Gear to use
Take with you: Harpoon

What to fish
Level 76-99 : use the Harpoon to catch Shark. I chose this place to fish Shark because the bank is on a very small distance.

TIP: if you want Manta Ray's, you should take the Trawler Fishing minigame located in Port Khazard. (Fishing level required to catch Manta Ray: 81)

-- Congratulations on 99 Fishing! Have a party with your friends to celebrate! --

I want to enter GOTM #2! Very Happy

cheers Emilian

-- Leave in the comments what you think about it! Very Happy --

It can be sometimes confusing when making guides for RS2006 since you basically are always playing P2P Razz
